Position: Community Educator

Reports to: Executive Director
Status: Contractual/Part-Time
Pay Rate: $45-$65 per hour

The mission of the Kerengende Foundation is to support sexual abuse and human trafficking victims and their families. We work to decrease the number of teens impacted by sexual trauma and to create safe spaces for families to learn how to recover from and prevent abuse. 

Our long term vision is to make our youth and familial support systems so strong that there will be a noticeable decrease in sexual trauma experienced by children.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Community Educator implements the organization’s community education and outreach plan to expand the community’s knowledge of and access to Kerengende Foundation’s services and build relationships with community partners. 

The primary responsibilities for this position are (1) implementation of the strategic outreach plan, (2) deliver preventative training to teens, adults and community organizations.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Collaborate with Executive Director to implement strategic community education and outreach plan to expand access to Kerengende Foundation’s services.
  2. Execute the strategic outreach plan by completing presentations, telephone and in-person contacts with potential community partners and existing partners.
  3. Represent Kerengende Foundation at networking events, meetings and outreach events.
  4. Teach community education classes and provide presentations on the topics pertaining to trauma prevention, healthy relationships and Child Sexual Abuse Prevention.
  5. Other duties as mutually agreed.

ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Maintain the confidentiality of client, staff, volunteer, and agency information. Exceptions include information pertaining to child abuse, elder abuse, danger to self or others or in response to an authorized release of information.
  2. Maintain appropriate boundaries with clients and community members.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Represent the agency in a positive, professional manner at all times.
  2. Maintain confidentiality of all client, staff, volunteers and agency information.
  3. Participate in agency functions as a participant or presenter as needed.
  4. Evening and weekend hours as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in social science or related field or equivalent experience required.
  2. Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES), LPC or MSW preferred.
  3. Public speaking and/or training experience 
  4. Trauma informed 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  2. Excellent public speaking skills
  3. Advanced computer skills; Excel, Word

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Valid driver’s license; reliable transportation and insurance.
  2. This contractual position is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; communicate clearly both audibly and written. Contractor must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Position: Development VISTA

The Development VISTA will build Kerengende’s capacity by improving our overall fundraising efforts by: researching, identifying, and preparing grants, creating partnerships with individual and corporate donors, recruiting, training, and managing volunteers, developing and implementing a marketing strategy, including social media, monthly newsletters, and eblast content. The VISTA will also increase data management and reporting efforts through research, development, and implementation of policies and processes to improve efficiency. 

This position will report to the Founder.

Compensation

This is a full-time national service position that provides a living allowance of approximately $17,552 before taxes over the course of one year ($675.08/biweekly). 

You also have the choice of one of two awards at the end of a successful year of service:

  • $1,800 cash stipend bonus

    OR
  • $6,345 Segal Education Award for future educational expenses or federal student loans (This award could be matched by your university! Click here to see if your school matches the award.)

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be 18 years or older 
  • Hold one of the following citizenship or legal residency statuses: US citizen, US National, Lawful Permanent Resident (i.e. Green Card status), and persons legally residing within a state which may include those holding the following classifications: refugee, asylee, temporary protected status throughout VISTA service, and holding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) status.
  • As this is a full-time position and requires 40 hours per week, candidates with full-time employment or who are currently enrolled full-time in an educational institute are not a good fit for VISTA positions.
